Burnout Recovery and Internal Family Systems with Rainn Wilson’s Soul Boom

So, I got to hear Dwight from The Office speak at the college Matt works for. I was only a few rows back!

An audience watches a Rainn Wilson, Dwight from the Office, circled in pink, is highlighted as the focal point of the event. This image represents creative content, online business, and personal growth, themes central to Deanna Seymour's approach to content creation.

It was our first date night in over a year. Which kind of relates to all of this blog, so keep reading…

I’ve been feeling a lil’ burnt out lately. I can hear the martyrdom creeping in. Poor me. I feel like I’m doing everything, and kind of sucking at a lot of it.

Then I go see Rainn Wilson (aka Dwight from The Office) talk about his new book Soul Boom and instantly buy it. I’m currently on page 85.

And for someone who rarely makes time to read… that’s pretty impressive. 💅

I also talked to my coach Kathleen about it. And we did some Internal Family Systems work around it.

If you haven’t heard of it, it’s kind of like that movie Inside Out. There’s little parts of you inside of you that struggle with things.

You meditate and have little conversations with these parts to help you sort through the junk that’s getting in your way.

During this session, I started seeing all the different things I do in life as galaxies. Now you’re thinking: Deanna! I didn’t know you were such a hippie!

I have a lil’ woo side too! 😂

Hear me out…

Each section of my life is a galaxy. ✨

💻 business
💖 being a mom
👩‍❤️‍👨 my relationship with Matt
💪 my own health and wellness
😫 adulting
📝 the list goes on and on…

Each little thing in those categories is a star within the galaxy. 🌟

🤑 the sales in my business
🏫 volunteering at my kids’ schools
🍽️ date nights
👟 working out
😵‍💫 doing my taxes

I was clumping all of the things together into one big dense ball.

If I couldn’t volunteer, or it’d been a year since our last date night – I sucked at literally everything. I’ve even thought to myself at times, “I suck at life.”

But with the galaxy metaphor, the date night star just needs a lil’ attention. The rest of the relationship galaxy is different stars with different levels of sparkle. ✨

Things feel way more doable and WAY less like I’m a total loser if I am struggling with something.

It’s not all intertwined anymore. It’s so much more spacious. I mean, it’s a FREAKING GALAXY!

So if you’re feeling stressed about something in your life or business and it’s starting to creep into how you feel about lots of other areas of your life… maybe think about spreading those stars out and thinking of the collective as your galaxies.

Then your whole life is the universe. Cool, right?

I told you I was part hippie. 🤪xo
